NEW Budget Camera System: Longshot Ranger+ Hands-On

Earlier this year Longshot announced their Ranger target camera system, a more affordable option than their LR-3 that makes Longshot accessible to more shooters! This system includes two models, the Ranger, which works out to 100 yards, and the Ranger+ for 1,000 yards and beyond!

Why Longshot?

Filming is an everyday event here at Ultimate Reloader. Longshot has completely changed the way we captured results, from precision groups to hits on steel.

Impact at 1,390 Yards As Seen Through the Longshot Hawk

We used to use traditional cameras, traveling between the target and bench just to press record in hopes we would get what we needed. This also meant no feedback at the line.

We used a number of LR-3 cameras to film the Rock Chuck Olympics and the Hawk spotting scope camera has also proven invaluable.

The LR-3 goes out to 2-miles but is also on the expensive side.

The Ranger and Ranger+ are far more affordable, making target cameras a possibility for many more shooters and content creators.

About Longshot Ranger+

Ranger is a single unit good out to 100 yards. Ranger+ comes with an additional receiver module, extending the range to 1000 yards.

Rather than use a separate tripod, the Ranger system features fold out legs that fold seamlessly into the camera and receiver.

A rotating camera eliminates the need for a tripod ball head.

(Note that the Ranger system is still compatible with separate tripods if you prefer that route.)

From Longshot Cameras

Introducing the Ranger+. This upgraded version of our compact Ranger camera takes your shooting experience to new heights, allowing you to see your shots up to an impressive range of 1000 yards, all while staying comfortably in your spot.

Powered by state-of-the-art 5G WiFi technology, the Ranger Plus seamlessly connects to your phone or tablet, providing you with an instant live feed of your shots. No more time wasted walking back and forth to the target – see your shots in real-time and make adjustments as needed, all from the convenience of your shooting position.

Experience exceptional picture quality with the Ranger Plus’s 2MP capabilities. Each shot is beautifully captured with precision and detail, allowing you to analyze your marksmanship with ease. And with our Longshot app, you’ll have access to a range of advanced features and tools to further enhance your shooting skills.

The Ranger cameras are rechargeable with a USB-C cable (no wall-hub required) and have a battery life of four hours. They work with the free Longshot app and have built-in Wi-Fi,  just like other Longshot products.

Set-Up and Use

The first step is to download the Longshot app on whatever device you will be using. Navigate to the Wi-Fi, turn on the camera, and select the RNGR Wi-Fi when it appears.

Once connected, go back to the Longshot app and select the play button to view the camera’s live feed.

When I place the camera, I also bring my device so I can view the feed and optimally position the lens.

Remember to place the camera in a place where it won’t be impacted by bullets or debris. The Longshot app has a host of helpful features including shot marking and measuring group size.

Conclusion

We have used the Ranger system for a number of range outings and stories lately and have been extremely happy with it.

It is incredibly exciting that more people will be able to experience what Longshot can provide!
