Back to Family Roots
RCBS’ story began in 1943 when Fred Huntington founded the company in the back of a laundromat. Since then, RCBS has become a household name for reloaders, known for its green presses and precision reloading tools. Over the years, the company changed hands and became part of larger corporations. But earlier this year, Hodgdon Powder—another family-owned company with a passion for reloading—brought RCBS back into the fold.
“It’s a cool full circle,” said Joel Hodgdon. “The Huntington family built RCBS, and now it’s back with another family that’s just as passionate about reloading.”
This transition has already sparked significant progress. “The first thing we did was push the button on production,” Joel explained. “We’ve invested heavily in inventory and operations at our Oroville facility, ensuring RCBS products are back on shelves and in the hands of reloaders.”
A Legacy of Innovation
RCBS has long been synonymous with innovation, from the iconic Rock Chucker press to its extensive line of dies and tools. Hodgdon’s acquisition aims to uphold and expand that legacy.
“We want to get RCBS back to its roots as an innovative company,” Joel said. “That means pushing the boundaries of reloading with gear that’s easier, faster, safer, and more cost-effective. At the same time, we’re continuing to deliver the classics—Rock Chuckers, bench priming tools, MatchMaster dies, and more.”
The team’s agility is impressive. RCBS can take a custom die design from concept to production in just two weeks, ensuring that even niche reloading needs are met. Looking ahead, Joel hinted at exciting new projects: “In the coming months, you’ll hear more about options for custom die sets—something we’re really proud of.”
Guided by Shared Values
RCBS and Hodgdon share a common philosophy, grounded in family values and a commitment to their employees and customers.
“At Hodgdon, we strive to treat people how we want to be treated,” Joel explained. “We’re bringing that same ethos to RCBS. It’s like one big family coming together—Kansas rednecks meeting California rednecks, all united by a passion for reloading.”
This culture extends to the workplace. Employees at RCBS benefit directly from the company’s success, fostering a sense of pride and ownership across the team. The result? A reloading gear manufacturer poised to deliver exceptional products while staying true to its heritage.
