What’s in the Box

The large kit box contains three separately packaged items with instructions: a Rotary Tumbler Lite, Wet/Dry Media Separator, and Platinum Series Brass Dryer.

Two pounds of stainless steel pins come inside the tumbler.

Wet Tumbling Demonstration

I started into the process right away, loading dirty .223 cases into the 3.3L rotary tumbler drum. (This drum can hold approximately 300 .223 cases.)

I added the steel stainless pins, filled the drum with water until it just covered the cases, and poured three capfuls of Frankford Arsenal’s brass cleaning solution over top.

I secured the lid tightly before setting the drum on the base and letting it tumble for an hour.

Shutting off the tumbler, I grabbed the wet/dry media separator. This unit has several parts.

The lid serves as a strainer over the sink while the bottom serves as a bucket with a spout.

Both have strainers to let out water. I put together the basket, set it over the bottom half, and dumped the tumbler contents inside.

Some pins may stick to the bottom of the drum.

You can rinse them out with some water if you choose.

Next I closed the latch on the basket and added the lid, turning the handle to separate the brass from the media.

With the stainless steel pins resting in the dirty water, it was time to dry the brass. The platinum series brass dryer accommodates about 1,000 pieces of brass.

I scattered them  approximately equally across two trays. This dryer also features a temperature adjustment dial ranging from 90 degrees Fahrenheit to 160 degrees Fahrenheit.

I chose to run it at 160 degrees for about an hour. I was pleasantly surprised that the brass was warm to the touch but not uncomfortably hot when I checked on it.

All appeared dry, so I let it cool and put it into a storage container. I tumbled .223 cases from Mojo Precision that we had processed, and the difference after cleaning was astounding.

Conclusion

I was very impressed with the results. Wet tumbling is always satisfying, but having everything you need in one kit makes it easier to get into.

The dryer worked incredibly quickly and I was surprised to see little to no water spots on the brass. I suspect this is due to the Frankford Arsenal brass cleaning solution I used, though the traditional Dawn dish soap and Lemi-Shine method works well too. (Note: the brass cleaning solution is not included in the kit.)
