In this article, we’ll take a look at two USB rigid borescopes from TESLONG: The  NTG100P (pistol), and the NTG100H (rifle).

NTG100H 26″ Rifle Borescope

The NTG100H is a rigid borescope suitable for both rifle and pistol barrel inspection. From the TESLONG product page:

Barrel Inspection

I took a look at a few different barrels including pistol and rifle, new and previously fired. The straight-on view shows a “straight down the barrel” view:

For my initial testing, I simply plugged these borescopes into my Windows 10 laptop via a conventional USB port. The great thing about this setup is the fact that these borescopes work with the built-in camera app (typically used with webcam) as seen in the above screenshot.

I then installed right-angle mirrors on the borescopes, and took a look at barrels using the right-angle view.

This right-angle view is great for close-up inspection and detail. Here’s a few screen captures from these inspections:

Impressive images! These devices will make barrel inspection much more comprehensive and easy.

NTG100P for use on Metal Lathe

Inspired by my friend and master gunsmith Gordy Gritters, I decided I needed to adapt one of my TESLONG borescopes to work on my lathe to help capture gunsmithing jobs. This solution turned out GREAT. I modified a BXA-sized Aloris style boring bar holder to clamp on the NTG100P housing (handle). Now I can inspect chambers, throats, and bores WHILE gunsmithing, and show my viewers what’s happening! Amazing.

Here’s a screenshot of inspecting the throat area in a barrel I recently chambered (has been fired):

The quality of these images will be very helpful in documenting my work on the lathe, that’s for sure.
