AR-MPR: Build Part 2 – Upper – Barrel, Gas Block, Gas Tube

We’re continuing here with the upper build process for the AR-MPR rifle. In this video, we’ll walk through the process of disassembling the barrel assembly, replacing the barrel nut with the custom aluminum unit that came with the Midwest Industries freefloat handguard, install the barrel, install the gas block and gas tube, and finally replace the muzzle brake. In the next video, we’ll install the handguard assembly.

Do you have tips or tricks that you want to share related to these assembly steps? Please comment on this post if so…

Thanks,
Gavin

  1. Gavin, do you need lube on the barrel nut? and locktite on the suppressor and gas block set screws? I have also heard of people staking the gas block screws. Opinions? Thanks – love the series!

  2. Gavin,

What is the make and length of the barrel you are using? I am planning a second AR-15 build and am curious as to what you are using. Love the website and info.

    Thanks,

  4. I just cqme back from my second range trip. The first was with open stihgs out to 75 yeards. Went back with a 3X90X40 and I learned that you can’t overtighted the Ruger Scope mounts.I also learned that my Steel 580 Series Ranch Rifle is more than accurate enough out to 100 years with this Burris scope on it.100 rounds so far. Used some really cheap Russian Steel Case rounds and a Non Ruger 20 round Magazine. Worked Flawlessly.I am very pleased.
