Ultimate Reloader is Adopting All-Digital 3-Phase Power + Special Deal

Here at Ultimate Reloader, we have a total of 5 3-phase machines, and have plans to add more! As a part of the content this coming year, we’ll be upgrading one of our shops 3-phase power solution, and will be adding 3-phase power as a new capability to the other shop. I’m happy to announce that we’ve partnered with Phase Technologies to cover their all-digital 3-phase power conversion solutions, and we’ll be documenting our installations and experiences as we go!

Quick note: If you reach out to Phase Technologies and mention that “Ultimate Reloader sent you” – you can get an additional year of full warranty coverage on your 3-phase converter for free.

About Phase Technologies

From the Phase Technologies website:

Phase Technologies is a power electronics manufacturer located in Rapid City, South Dakota. Founded in 1999, Phase Technologies developed the world’s first digital phase converter, called the Phase Perfect® Digital Phase Converter. This was the first major advancement of phase conversion technology in decades. Recognized as the world’s leading manufacturer of phase converter technologies, the company expanded the technology into variable frequency drives (VFDs) in the irrigation, water pumping, HVAC and oil & gas industries.

Specializing in VFDs with Active Front End technology, Phase Technologies produces the only low harmonic, fully regenerative, phase-converting VFD that complies with IEEE 519, the international standard for allowable harmonic levels on utility mains. The company has an extensive product line-up of low harmonic, fully regenerative drives in both three-phase and phase-converting models.

Here’s a video that describes the technology and its advantages:

Why Digital Phase Conversion?

I recently got a bid from our local PUD to run 3-phase power to our shop. Even though the power run was only about 1 block away, the cost to get power to the building was going to run somewhere between $40,000 and $50,000. And this is for space I’m renting, not where I’m an owner. That led me to investigating alternatives. After considering rotary phase converters, VFDs (one for each machine), and other technology, all-digital phase conversion was the obvious choice. Motor start-up performance, noise, and space were some of the key considerations.

What is To Come

This year at Ultimate Reloader, we’re planning some great stories covering Phase Technologies and specifically a couple of Phase Perfect installs and related adventures:

Phase Perfect Enterprise Install at Mountain Shop

Up at our mountain shop, we’ll be installing an PT Enterprise Phase Perfect Panel (PTE-010). This should work great with a variety of metalworking and woodworking equipment that requires 3-phase power. We’ll be documenting the install, and also comparing motor startup performance compared to our rotary phase converter.

Phase Perfect Enterprise Install at Gunsmithing Shop

Here we’re going more extreme with a PT Performance Phase Perfect Panel! We’ve got a dedicated 200 amp single phase electrical panel to feed the PT Performance unit, and that will allow us to run an entire machine shop from this single unit. I’m hoping to add CNC machines and other shop equipment in the years to come, and having this 3-phase capability will be invaluable towards those goals.
