About the Primer Xpress

The next step in loading our bulk-processed Mojo Precision .223 brass is priming. The Primer Xpress fills the priming tube so you don’t have to halt production. It is available for both the Mark 7 Apex 10 and Mark 7 Evolution. The Xpress holds 300 primers and can be refilled while the machine is running!

From Mark 7 Reloading:

Oscillating Automated Patented Priming System

Mark 7’s Automated Priming System contains totally new, patented technology which provides nearly 100% successful primer orientation for your loading machine.

This completely unique design features an oscillating primer reservoir which effortlessly orients primers and allows continuous primer feeding.

    • Uninterrupted Priming and No More Loading Primer Tubes!

No more stopping your machine to reload primers using clumsy tubes! Simply add more primers into the built-in funnel without interruption to your loading operation. The large hopper can hold 300+ primers and includes a tough polycarbonate shield, which also keeps dust and debris out of the system. Dual optical sensors automatically start/stop the feed system to provide primers as needed. Primers are fed into your machine using a simplified single slot feed disc mechanism for positive, reliable primer positioning.

    • Failsafe Sensor

In the unlikely event that an up-side-down primer does make it into the feed ramp, our failsafe sensor will detect it and sound an alarm for manual presses and stop the operation on automated machines.

Hundreds of hours of development and testing have gone into the design of this system, along with the loading of hundreds of thousands of primers to ensure consistent, trouble-free operation.

    • Conversion is Quick and Easy

Change over between small and large size primers is easy to do and all parts are included.

Works on Apex 10 and Apex 10 Autodrive.  If you have Evolution with standard priming, contact us for upgrade options.

What’s in the Box

The Primer Xpress includes the main unit, control box, cables, mounting hardware, cover/sensor, and disc covers for the Gen 1 priming system.

Primer Xpress Sensor Unit

Though the clear disc covers won’t be used with a Gen 2 priming system, Mark 7 has thoughtfully included mounting hardware for both the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Apex 10 with the Xpress.  Specially-cut cardboard holds all the pieces during shipping. The instruction manual rests on top. (Be careful not to cut the instruction manual while opening the box!)

Note: The foil tape installed on the tray shown is not standard. We had heard of a foil tape modification that aids with the flow of some more stubborn primers, and asked Mark 7 to install it before shipping our unit.

Installation and Testing

The first step was to install the latest firmware and remove the old priming system tube/priming plate.

Installing the Bracket onto the Gen 2 Priming System

Kyle quickly accomplished this and installed the mounting bracket. Once he had adjusted it to his liking, he added the Primer Xpress, ensuring it was level and flush.

Kyle suggests checking the primer disc operation to ensure there is no resistance before installing the final plate.

Next came a functionality test and canting the Xpress. Lyman recommends doing so to help primers flow better. We decided to prime all of our brass at once—no loading yet.

If the primer orientation is incorrect, the Primer Xpress will catch it and alert the user with flashing red lights. We pre-loaded primers and continued to add as we ran the machine—no primer tubes required!

The machine ran flawlessly at 1,500 and 2,000 rounds per hour.

Conclusion

Kyle did considerable research to make sure everything was oriented correctly.

We went through an abundance of primers in seemingly no time at all. This upgrade allows for more efficient priming of greater volumes of brass.

No longer do you have to fill primer tubes! Next up is loading the primed cases on the Apex 10 with FW Arms dies.
