6.5 Sherman Short in South Africa

Not long after Piet Malan traveled to Washington for the Rock Chuck Olympics, I joined him in South Africa for the hunt of a lifetime.

I harvested a springbok, impala, and Oryx (Gemsbok) with Piet’s 6.5 Sherman Short.

This was my first experience with the cartridge and I was very impressed.

I didn’t miss a single shot during sight-in or in the field. Every animal humanely dropped within seven seconds of impact.

Sherman Wildcat Cartridges

6.5 Sherman Short is just one of a number of Sherman wildcat cartridges.

Each is optimized for a specific purpose. Looking forward, I have four rifle builds planned. I will not only build the rifles and document technical details but will also reload for the cartridges and test their performance capabilities.

My first build will be a 7mm SWC. This cartridge uses a .308 bolt face in a short action with long, high BC bullets and is ideal for precision applications.

Build Components for Upcoming 7mm SWC Build

Second will be a 7mm Sherman Short—the 7mm version of the 6.5 Sherman Short Piet and I used in South Africa.

I plan to center this build around a BAT Vesper action in a Foundation stock.

Conclusion

I want to hear from you! Go to the Sherman Wildcat website and let me know specifically what you are interested in and why.
