NEW TriggerTech Tikka Triggers

TriggerTech’s new special and diamond triggers for  the Tikka T3 family allow you to upgrade your factory rifle experience and match the performance of their Rem 700 triggers. We put both new triggers on our TriggerScan and ran tests against our TriggerTech Rem700 triggers!

About the TriggerTech Tikka Special

I’ve run TriggerTech Special Rem 700 triggers for a number of years, including in my 224 Valkyrie build.

I was able to get a first-round impact on a small steel target with a Berger 80.5-grain bullet at 1,000 yards

The single-stage TriggerTech Tikka Special has an MSRP of $224.99, with a minimum pull weight of 1.0 lbs. and a maximum pull weight of 3.5 lbs. It is built for hunting and target shooting with both curved and flat trigger shoe options.

From Tikka:

The TriggerTech Special trigger for Tikka rifles is the perfect upgrade for both competition shooters and hunters seeking to improve their accuracy.

Compatible with the T3, T3x and T1x, this drop-in trigger features TriggerTech’s Zero Creep Technology™, providing a true zero-creep break, extremely short over-travel and outstanding reliability.

    • Pull weight range of 1.0 – 3.5 lbs
    • CLKR Technology
    • Available with pro curved and flat trigger lever

TriggerTech’s Zero Creep Technology™ offers outstanding reliability, even in the harshest environments. Hardened 440C stainless steel internal components ensure corrosion resistance and an extended service life. As Zero Creep Technology™ does not rely on coating, polishing or lubricating the key engagement surfaces, trigger pulls will be more consistent from shot to shot, and after thousands of shots more than you ever thought possible.

About the TriggerTech Tikka Diamond

TriggerTech’s Diamond trigger is one of, if not my favorite, triggers of all time.

It starred in two of my most accurate builds to date, my 6 Dasher and 223 trainer. My best 6 Dasher five-shot group measured 0.090” at 100 yards.

6mm Dasher 0.090″ Group

I have TriggerTech Diamond triggers in a number of my rifle builds.

The single-stage Tikka Diamond has an MSRP of $324.99, exactly $100 more than the Tikka Special. It was designed with a lower pull range from an approximate minimum of  4 ounces and approximate maximum pull weight of 2 lbs. It is built for precision target shooting with both curved and flat trigger shoe options.

From Tikka

Introducing the TriggerTech Diamond Trigger for Tikka rifles. Building on from our success with other bolt action rifle platforms, we are excited to offer Diamond triggers for the T3, T3x and T1x Tikka rifles. The TriggerTech Diamond is our best-in-class trigger designed to meet the requirements of leading competitive shooters.

    • Pull weight range of <4 oz – 32 oz
    • CLKR Technology
    • Available with pro curved or flat trigger lever

Our patented Zero Creep Technology™ provides a true zero-creep break, extremely short over-travel and outstanding reliability. Shooters have described our products as the most consistent and crisp breaking triggers they have ever felt. After feeling the crisp break on the Diamond Trigger, you will immediately become aware of the creep that exists in all other triggers. Five of the critical Diamond components are assembled as matched set to enable a true zero-creep break, extremely short overtravel, and offers outstanding reliability.

TriggerTech Diamond Triggers are made with hardened 440C stainless steel internal components to ensure corrosion resistance and an extended service life. As Zero Creep Technology™ does not rely on coating, polishing or lubricating the key engagement surfaces, trigger pulls will be more consistent from shot to shot, and after thousands of shots more than you ever thought possible.

TriggerScan Tests and Results

Using a Tikka T3x equipped with a Boyds Agility DEADSET stock and Element Titan 5-25×56 scope, we utilized our TS-11 TriggerScan to profile the factory trigger, TriggerTech Special, and TriggerTech Diamond.

This tool is the world’s only comprehensive force-distance trigger profiling tool and features a motorized load cell that goes through the process of actuating the trigger.

We can visually see grit, creep, and more on the graph generated with each test iteration.

Keep in mind that every trigger has published minimum and maximum pull weights, but these will vary with the stiffness of the firing pin spring, etc.

Left to Right: Tikka Factory Trigger, TriggerTech Special, TriggerTech Diamond

I ran three iterations of each test — light, medium, and near maximum pull weights — for each trigger. (The TriggerTech triggers were incredibly easy to install and swap.)

I started with the Tikka factory trigger, which is adjustable from approximately 2 lbs. to 4 lbs. via a single screw at its front.

Turning clockwise increases pull weight while turning counter-clockwise decreases pull weight.

Factory Tikka Trigger

Our specific trigger is adjustable from 2.25 lbs to approx 4.5 lbs. The factory trigger is clean — my biggest qualm is that it doesn’t adjust lower than 2.25 lbs.

Tikka Factory Trigger TriggerScan Results

Our TriggerTech Tikka Special trigger had an average minimum pull weight of 1.163 lbs., an average medium pull weight of 2.265 lbs., and an average near maximum pull weight of 3.679 lbs.

(I turned the screw until the trigger wouldn’t actuate, then backed it off until it did to obtain the near maximum. The medium pull weight was an estimation point, not necessarily the middle of the pull weight range.) The lines for each pull weight overlapped extremely cleanly, with greater consistency than the factory Tikka trigger. The travel to actuate was approximately 0.027”.

TriggerTech Tikka Special TriggerScan Results

I also compared the Tikka Special results to the Rem 700 Special results from my 224 Valkyrie. Both triggers shared very similar dynamics and consistency.

Tikka Special vs. Rem 700 Special

Our Rem 700 pull weight ranged from approximately 1.0 lbs. to just under 3.5 lbs. This is a very old test and I suspect I may not have turned the screw as far as I could have to get a near max result.

Our TriggerTech Tikka Diamond trigger had an average minimum pull weight of 4.475 ounces, an average medium pull weight of 12.678 ounces, and an average near maximum pull weight of 1.77 lbs.

TriggerTech Tikka Diamond TriggerScan Results

Similarly to the Tikka Special results, the lines for each pull weight overlapped extremely cleanly, again with greater consistency than the factory Tikka trigger. The travel to actuate was approximately 0.027”.

223 Trainer

I ran a test of the TriggerTech Rem 700 trigger in my 223 trainer to be able to directly compare Diamond results. The Rem 700 had a different profile from the Tikka, but still with consistent dynamics and similar pull weight results.

Tikka Diamond vs. Rem 700 Diamond

Conclusion

Both TriggerTech options displayed great consistency, superior to the factory trigger, and great similarities to their Rem 700 counterparts for easy transition between rifles.

Consistency is key to repeated success and accuracy down range. I’m glad TriggerTech decided to support Tikka rifles as they are incredibly popular.

Approximately 50% of the rifles that come into my shop for muzzle-threading and other gunsmithing work are Tikkas. Check out our other Tikka content, including the Ultradyne UD chassis upgrade
