About the Multi-Caliber Bullet Comparator

From the Creedmoor Sports product page:

Creedmoor Sports Multi-Caliber Bullet Comparator

This tool is manufactured in the USA out of high-grade stainless steel and will last a lifetime of use. The comparator features six measurements with each hole being precisely machined for a given bore diameter that matches the bullet caliber. On one side you will see the imperial bullet caliber engrave, on the reverse side is the metric equivalent.

    1. This tool allows you to measure six different calibers simply by rotating the tool, so the desired caliber is in the 6 O’clock position.
    2. Slide the Comparator onto the top jaw of the caliper so your desired measuring hole is in the 6 O’clock position and facing the bottom jaw.
    3. Close the calipers so the bottom jaw rests inside of the grove of the comparator on the recess flat.
    4. With the calipers closed, screw in the two brass thumb screws and tighten finger tight.
    5. Zero your calipers.
    6. Place the bullet on the lower jaw, and close the calipers, the inner diameter of the comparator will contact on the ogive of the bullet.

Care of your Comparator
This comparator is a precision measuring tool, the measuring surfaces have been precision machined. What makes this comparator unique is that the critical surfaces are recessed and protected from accidental bumps or drops. In order to properly care for this tool, store it in the protective case that it shipped in. This will keep the comparator free from dirt and debris.

Stainless Steel is corrosion resistant, not corrosion proof, and sometimes the sweat on your hands can still cause some minor surface corrosion. Occasionally clean the tool and wipe it down with a light coat of oil to preserve the finish after use.

This tool has two versions, each with a selection of calibers covered:

  • 224, 243, 257, 264, 284, and .308
  • 17, .20, .270, .303, .32, and .35

Using the Multi-Caliber Bullet Comparator

Using this tool is EASY. Here’s what you’ll do:

  1. Install the set screws opposite the caliber you want to measure
  2. Clamp the tool on the fixed jaw of your digital calipers while squeezing with light pressure
  3. Zero the digital calipers while closed on the tool
  4. Hold round of ammunition between moving jaw and comparator tool
  5. Wiggle case head end of cartridge SLIGHTLY to seat
  6. Take reading

That’s all there is to it! You can zero the digital caliper on a particular cartridge and get “relative” bullet seating depths if you prefer.

  1. I have never owned a comparator, but have been unhappy with the inconsistency in my bullet seating depths. This tool, along with a micrometers bullet seating die will take my reloading out of the dark ages. Thank you for your time, very helpful video.
