About the Hornady 12th Edition Reloading Manual

The data included in Hornady’s latest manual is oriented towards Hornady bullets, but is a handy reference overall. It also includes propellants and cartridges previous additions did not including StaBALL Match, StaBALL 6.5, and StaBALL HD, 22 ARC, 22 Creedmoor, 400 Legend and more.

Hornady has released supplemental materials on their website with some of this data, but this is the first time it can be found all in one place.

From Hornady

With data for more than 400 cartridges across over two dozen calibers, the 12th Edition Hornady® Handbook of Cartridge Reloading is the most comprehensive resource ever produced for reloading Hornady® bullets.

This edition introduces groundbreaking bullet lines, including the CX®, ELD‑VT®, and Sub‑X®, alongside expanded data for proven favorites such as the ELD® Match, FTX®, SST®, and more. Propellants have been updated and expanded, with popular new powders like Winchester’s StaBall Match, StaBall 6.5, and StaBall HD included with a wide range of cartridges.

To complement the new powders, the 12th Edition includes many new cartridge additions such as the 22 ARC, 22 Creedmoor, 6mm GT, 25 Creedmoor, 7mm PRC, 338 ARC, 400 Legend and others.

A detailed table of contents neatly separates Hornady’s manual into topics and specific reloading steps, making it a great resource for new reloaders.

The included educational resources aren’t just for newbies, covering Hornady’s history, bullet options, and tips and techniques.

Each caliber section starts with a shell casing diagram and key dimensions for easy reference. Basic facts, background information, and  load data for light through heavy bullets round out each section.

Hornady’s load data covers a variety of powders and velocity brackets for each bullet weight and maximum charge weights highlighted in red. Remember that velocity will vary depending upon the specifics of your firearm.

One thing I especially appreciate about Hornady’s manual is the granularity of their published data. In example, Hornady breaks down 223/5.56 data into 223 data, 5.56 data, and dedicated service rifle data. While this data is all similar, the separation makes it easier to fine-tune for specific uses.

Once again, as the data is oriented towards Hornady bullets, Hornady also includes an item number, cartridge overall length, G1 BC, and G7 BC for all of their bullets. Keep in mind the data can be used with other brand bullets of the same weight.

At the back of the manual is Hornady’s illustrated glossary, defining reloading terms with helpful illustrations. This is wonderful as a stand-alone reference but also pairs well with the reloading education sections of the book.

Conclusion

I really appreciate how the Hornady 12th Edition Reloading Handbook is laid out and the additional information and new load data included.
