About the Element Optics Titan 5-25×56

Though a little overkill, I decided to mount the Titan on my .308 set in an Ultradyne UD-5 chassis.

It features Element’s famous tool-free turrets as well as stainless steel internals with a zero stop. An illuminated FFP reticle opens up opportunities for night shooting.

It also has an MSRP under $900!

From Element Optics

Meet the Game Changer: The TITAN. Like the Helix, the Titan puts your money where it matters, with precision-engineered internals and a turret system superior to other products in the same price class. To make things even better, we’ve gone one step ahead and given the Titan a 34mm tube and HD glass. The 34mm tube allows for a greater elevation/windage range when dialing for those extreme distance shots, and the 56mm Objective lens with HD glass provides you with an ultra-sharp, clear image with a large field of view. The turret system has been upgraded from your stock-standard sporting optic to feature stainless steel internals for resistance against wear-and-tear when dialling regularly – something that modern shooting disciplines require. The tool-free turrets and zero-stop mechanism give you high end features without breaking the bank, and the First Focal Plane reticle means the reticle subtensions remain true at any magnification. We’ve introduced quality control checks to give you peace of mind when taking that 1000 yard shot, and if something goes wrong, our Platinum Lifetime Warranty has you covered!

Features:

    • 34mm Main Body Tube
    • Illuminated, First Focal Plane Reticle

Installation and Shooting

I mounted the Titan on a 6.5 Creedmoor set in an Ultradyne UD-5 chassis. For full details on the rifle build, watch the complete video.

I started with Berger 6.5 Creedmoor 140 Grain factory ammunition and moved on to a PRS handload featuring Hornady 147 grain ELD-M bullets. I achieved  ⅝” results for five-shot groups at 100 yards.

I moved to the ridgeline and engaged rock chuck steel targets at 335 and 660 yards.

I could see the targets with great clarity through the Titan, center punching them every time. After these confidence-boosting shooting experiences, I decided to try for Harold the rockchuck at 1,390 yards.

While I didn’t hit him with the first shot, I did so within five rounds, indicated by Caldwell Flash Bang. What is particularly impressive is that the batteries are still running two years later after the Rock Chuck Olympics

Ultimate Reloader Optics Test Rig

The Ultimate Reloader Optics Test Rig, designed and built in house, measures actual optics performance using precision 100 yard targets (MIL, MOA) and camera positioning to sub -0.0005”.

(Our 100 yard targets are verified with a Leica laser rangefinder accurate to ⅛ inch and the target grids have been verified with calipers.) The rig tests tracking, zoom, parallax, and distortion.

Note: We do not currently have a way to capture optics image quality in a meaningful way.

Through Camera View

To test tracking, we took the scope up, down, left and right 3.0 mil, noting where we landed on the target. The Element Theos and Nexus Gen 2 have our best observed tracking to date. The Titan matched this with perfect reticle alignment!

For parallax, we started with the center of the scope and camera collinear. With the parallax set to the testing range (100 yards), we moved the scope left and right 0.050” to simulate varying head position. We observed no shift.

To test image distortion, we took one frame from the video and aligned it with a rectangle to see if there is any pincushion effect. Parallel lines indicated zero distortion. This test also validated the accuracy of the subtensions.

Conclusion

Personally, I don’t think you can go wrong with the Element Titan. It is high quality with great features at an affordable price. If you’re looking for a 34mm optic, it should definitely be on your radar!
