Reloading Bench Overhaul

Do you spend more time looking for tools and making bench space to work than actually reloading? I’ve recently solved this issue with a variety of tools from InLine Fabrication. You too can get your time back!

The Problem

No matter what size bench you have, it’s easy for it to get cluttered. This makes it harder both to find the tools you need to complete your next project and to clear space to do it without losing other items.

Some time ago I added drawer organizers to my bench and that helped with some small parts, but it still didn’t solve the space issue storing things like presses, trimmers, paper towels, and more.

I had seen ultramounts before and have gone through an evolution of a number of different bench systems of my own making, but seeing the behind the scenes of Ultimate Reloader really hit home.

Gavin showed me how they are able to organize and quickly change out all of their presses using InLine Fabrication quick-change plates and ultramounts in conjunction with the Ultimate Reloader Bench System. It didn’t take me long to realize this is what I needed to do at my shop.

About InLine Fabrication

InLine Fabrication is a family-owned business run by competitive shooters who recognize the needs of avid reloaders. What’s on their website is really only the tip of the iceberg of what they can do. They have over 900 archived templates not shown on the website for vintage presses, vises, grinders, chainsaw sharpeners, case trimmers, and more. Reach out to Dan@inlinefabrication.com if you need help determining what is best for you or don’t see what you need.

Bench Solutions

I have a number of presses and tools that require bolting down. The InLine Fabrication quick change system allows you to quickly and painlessly swap out equipment on an ultramount.

Quick change ultramounts come in several sizes: flush mount QC base, 9 ¾” (tall)  7.5” (junior), and 4” (micro). I opted for the micro as I already have a tall bench.

Each quick change plate has an angled edge and studs that lock into a slot on the quick change ultramount. Tighten wingnuts or knurl nuts onto the studs and you are ready to go!

I set up each of my presses on quick change top plates. Each of these plates has a mounting area for multi-bin holders, which are great for separating brass. I had plenty of room to work with my Dillon RL550C, RCBS Summit, and SAC Nexus. (I did add the additional bin system for the Nexus.)

If you don’t see a plate that fits your needs and don’t want to order a custom plate, InLine offers universal plates. I used one of these to mount my K&M bench tool.

The Railplate is another step up in functionality with a larger footprint and pre-drilled holes that line up with a variety of InLine Fabrication products, including quick change mounts.

Slots on the plate allow for mounting to a variety of T-track systems, providing greater flexibility for whatever setup you currently have without having to route new tracks.

Previous press mounting method

I can move the railplate forward and backwards so that the low quick change system hangs just over the bench for press use. The mount is also low enough that I can still utilize the plate itself as bench space if needed.

InLine Panel and Rail

With the big stuff taken care of, it was time to address the small, frequently used items that also take up bench space. This includes calipers, pencils, comparators, and more. I mounted the InLine Panel behind my bench and secured the InLine rail to it as well as a variety of other brackets and trays.

Remember—there is no one right way to organize your equipment. The modular InLine Panel system offers extreme flexibility for you to change your setup any time you like! The rail accommodates a number of AKRO bins and panel itself is magnetic. I added LED lights and a glove holder compartment as well as an InLine paper towel holder and accessory bin.

While screwing equipment into the panel is the most stable, you can also use peg hooks to attach accessories. The programmable LED lights add a nice touch as there are a number of practical and fun options to choose from to brighten up your workspace.

Conclusion

InLine Fabrication has created an ecosystem of organizational products that work symbiotically to improve your workspace efficiency and experience.

I am a believer in their systems and have seen their impact firsthand. Are you using InLine Fabrication products? How do you stay organized?
