The Foundation: M-Series Dies

To understand the S-Series, let’s briefly revisit its predecessor, the M-Series Die. If you want to watch the dedicated video on the M-Series die, check out the overview video here:

Known for its micrometer adjustability, spring-loaded decapping, and unparalleled precision, the M-Series is a top-tier option for precision shooters. However, its premium features come with a price point starting around $450, along with the requirement of an inch-and-a-quarter press setup, making it a significant investment for reloaders.

From Area 419:

KEY FEATURES

    • Precision Ground Expander Mandrels (all dies ship with a .002 neck tension mandrel, or add more increments with our MANDREL KIT)
    • Full-Length Neck to Extractor Sizing
    • Spring Ejection for Spent Primers
    • Replaceable Steel Decap Pins
    • Reamer Cut to Exacting Dimensions for a TRUE Size (no more sticky bolt after the second firing)
    • Hydraulic Shoulder Pressure Relief
    • 100% Made in AMERICA

The S-Series die builds on the M-Series’ legacy, offering many of the same benefits at a more accessible price point. Here’s what makes the S-Series a standout:

  • Standard Adjustability: Unlike the M-Series, the S-Series omits micrometer adjustability for headspace, simplifying the design and reducing costs. Instead, it uses a standard method for setting headspace, which can be enhanced with modular shoulder systems or competition shoulders.
  • Precision Engineering: The S-Series features reamer-cut dimensions, a built-in interchangeable full-length expansion mandrel, and spring-loaded decapping, ensuring consistent results with minimal brass work.
  • Enhanced Compatibility: This die fits standard presses, expanding its usability to a wider range of reloaders.
  • Durability and Finish: Made from 17-4 stainless steel and finished with nitride coating, the S-Series die is built to withstand extensive use while maintaining performance.

All dies ship with an Area 419 ZERO Universal Die Ring, a spare decapping pin and necessary install/removal tools.

After testing them all, and finding everything we like and didn’t like, and working with thousands of customers and a variety of industry partners, we believe this is what a 7/8″ sizing die should be. We think you’ll agree.

Performance in Action

During our demo, we resized a batch of Alpha Munitions 6.5 Creedmoor brass using the S-Series die. The process was smooth and efficient. We verified headspace adjustments using the Area 419 Modular Shellholder system, achieving precise results with minimal effort. The ability to tweak headspace in increments, paired with the die’s robust construction, highlights its versatility and reliability.

The Price Point Advantage

At under $300, the S-Series die offers a compelling option for shooters looking to achieve premium performance without the premium price tag. It’s an ideal choice for those wanting to maintain high precision while staying within budget.

Conclusion

Area 419’s S-Series die represents a leap forward in reloading technology, catering to a broader audience of shooters. Whether you’re a seasoned reloader or just starting out, the S-Series delivers exceptional value, performance, and durability.

You can find the S-Series dies on the Area 419 website and through their global dealer network. What are your thoughts on this new offering? Are you currently using the M-Series or considering the S-Series for your setup? Let me know in the comments below!
