About the Caldwell Rimfire KYL Challenge Target

Caldwell’s Rimfire KYL Challenge Target is extremely fun to shoot and easy to set up.

It consists of an array of eight AR500 targets that get progressively smaller from 2” to ¼”, forcing the shooter to be more and more accurate each time.

The AR500 steel is only ¼” thick, so this target is rated for rimfire ammunition only.

The thinner targets make the entire system more lightweight and easy to transport. Shooting this target with anything other than rimfire will void Caldwell’s lifetime guarantee.

This target doesn’t require any tools to set up. Each target slides on to a bar that connects to two sidepieces to keep it upright.

Spacers are included to maintain the same distance between targets.

Caldwell® AR500 Rimfire KYL Challenge Targets are the perfect way to test your shooting skills and have fun competitions with friends. These targets are commonly referred to as KYL targets short for “know your limits”. This name comes from the 8 targets that range in size from 2” to ¼” that are designed to test a shooter’s skill. The most common way to use the target is for shooters to start with the largest target and accumulate points for each target they hit. If the shooter misses, they drop back to zero. This tests a shooter’s ability to judge their limits and see how well they stack up against others. Targets are constructed of certified AR500 steel and can withstand a lifetime of impacts from any rimfire cartridge including 22 Magnum and 17HMR. The included stand uses ½” diameter steel tubing and durable polyurethane joints to set up quickly and take down for easy transport and storage. Shooting

I set the target at 50 yards in the industrial yard and laid prone behind a Bergara B-14R equipped with an Element Helix.

I greatly enjoyed shooting prone in a t-shirt with a bipod and Creedmoor Sports Soup Can Rest before the weather turned bitter the next day.

I’ve used a number of different KYL targets over the years and have always found myself frustrated with the targets sliding towards one another. Caldwell’s spacers make this impossible and keep the targets in the same horizontal position while promoting great swing.

Conclusion

The Caldwell Rimfire KYL Challenge Target is not as heavy as some of the other KYL racks I have fired on, which makes it less stable but also far more portable.

This KYL rack is extremely simple to set up and easy to carry. I had no issues cleaning the row multiple times and was very pleased with the clear feedback it provides.
