Shooting Bags from Creedmoor Sports: The Soup Can & Freezer Bag

Having the right support bag is critical. Whether you’re in the field hunting, shooting a PRS match, or just at the range trying to shoot some groups, Creedmoor Sports has a wide range of bags available. In this video, I test two of the most popular options: the Soup Can Rest and Freezer Bag. As a non-PRS shooter, I was surprised with how well they worked. Check it out!

About Creedmoor Bags

Shooting bags are nothing new, but have become more and more popular and specialized with the rise of precision rifle shooting competition.

Creedmoor Sports has long been known for their hardback Cordura shooting coats and mats but they also make a variety of shooting bags with the same high-quality Cordura.

These Cordura bags are strong and built to hold up, but are lighter and less expensive than waxed canvas (which Creedmoor also offers).

About the Soup Can Rifle Rest

From Creedmoor

The Creedmoor “Soup Can” Rest Bag was designed to be a hand-held squeeze rear bag for long range precision shooting. Our rear squeeze bag is shaped just like a can of chicken noodle soup to ergonomically fit your hand. The shell is made with a high strength lite Ripstop material that flows with the plastic bead filler. With a combination of the plastic bead filler and the non-slip rubber at both ends, the hand held rifle rest will give you a rock steady platform during shooting. We also installed a 1.5″ adjustable nylon strap for all size hands.

Features:

  • Non-slip rubber at both ends.
  • Hand-held squeeze design for precise elevation adjustments
  • Stable, consistent support for prone, bench, and positional shooting

Dimensions:

  • Approx. 5″ long
  • Approx. 3.5″ diameter
  • Weight:
  • Approx. 1

About the Freezer Bag

From Creedmoor

Freeze your hold, squeeze the trigger!

The Creedmoor Sports Freezer Bag can be utilized as a lightweight positional support bag, as well as a rifle rest. It’s great to fill a void between your body and a rooftop barricade, or you can use it between your arm and your knee to stabilize a kneeling position. You can also put yourself into a field target type position and use it as a bumbag. If a prop is awkwardly low and prone isn’t an option, the Freezer bag can be used as a rifle rest to provide a more elevated position.

Material: Cordura

Fill: Spex Lite Shooting Bag Fill

Weight: Approximately 1.4 lb

Dimensions: 8.5″x11.5″x16″

Rimfire Shooting

I started off shooting Caldwell’s Rimfire KYL Rack with a Bergara B-14R and Lapua ammunition. I used a bipod with the Soup Can Rest as rear support. This bag was really easy to tuck up under the back of the gun. Squeezing the bag made it easy to adjust elevation. I ran the KYL clean with no issues. Serena decided to try her hand as well and took well to the Soup Can Rest as a positional shooter with prior experience with this bag. I soon learned it is her go-to rear rest! She cleaned the KYL rack faster than I did.

Next, I decided to see how I could utilize Creedmoor’s Freezer Bag to shoot the 50-yard KYL from the sitting position. I deployed the bipod and stabilized the rifle atop the Freezer Bag. To my surprise, I was able to run the KYL faster from this position than from the prone position!

25 Creedmoor Shooting

I have spent a lot of time with Gavin’s custom-built 25 Creedmoor. This build was centered around a 1934 Armory BE1 action in a Foundation Genesis 2 micarta stock with Hawkins Precision M5 DBM, Telson Target Master 5-25×56 in XLR 34mm rings, Bix’n Andy TacSport Pro-X Trigger, and an Area 419 HELLFIRE brake.

Gavin chambered a CRB super heavy contour 1:7.5 .257 barrel blank on the PM-1440HVT-2 using a reamer from JGS Precision and gauges from Manson Precision and Forster.

I recently tested multiple types of Hornady 25 Creedmoor ammunition through this rifle.

I decided to shoot some 100-yard groups off the concrete bench using the Freezer Bag as front support and the Soup Can as rear support. I ensured as much of the rifle forend as possible rested on the Freezer Bag for optimal stability. My best three-shot group using this method and Hornady factory ammunition was 0.24”, less than 0.25 MOA!

The Soup Can Rest can be rotated for additional elevation, which I did not need in this scenario. What I cared most about was how the gun was recoiling off the bag after each shot. I played back the footage and confirmed that the gun came right back after each shot without a lot of bounce.

I attribute most of this to the type of fill that Creedmoor uses: Spexlite. Spexlite offers a variety of fills varying in density and size. This allows Creedmoor to select the proper fill for the bag’s specific use case. (I use a lot of Spexlite in my F-Class bags.)

The Freezer Bag contains a dense, lightweight fill. The Soup Can Rest has a heavier, larger fill than the Freezer Bag,  which allows for easier manipulation.
