The Ultimate Cerakote Spray Booth from Built American (Install + Demo)

One of the most rewarding parts of Ultimate Reloader is providing product improvement feedback and seeing it put into action. While we loved Built American’s DSBE-1500 Spray Booth, we recommended a few upgrades that would take it to the next level. Enter the GS3-457

About the GS3-457 Spray Booth

Built American’s new GS3-457 Spray Booth takes the same technology as  their previous models, but adds a number of features aimed at improving the user experience.

They actually integrated Ultimate Reloader feedback and feature requests into the new design, which features two fans, six filters, enhanced lighting, built-in racking options, a test sheet clip, and a two-gun storage rack.

Built American also includes some patriotic sample materials to spray!

Our model has a premium powder coat interior to increase reflectivity. This is available as an add-on.

Other options include interior side lighting, variable speed motor control, and a manometer filter indicator.

Misc: LED lighting; Hanging rack

Weight: 800 lbs

Interior Dimensions: 50” Length x 48” Depth x 84” Height

Exterior Dimensions: 65” Length x 65” Depth x 87” Height

The 65” x 65” x 87” exterior dimensions provide enough room for us to work on larger Cerakote projects and booth operation is simple. Well-labeled controls on the side of the booth power the lights and fan.

One important feature I specifically requested was the ability to control fan speed. Venting a spray booth to the outdoors at full speed means that large amounts of cool air are being pushed outside in the summer and warm air pushed outside in the winter.

This is highly inefficient and can create HVAC load problems. Built American’s adjustable fan speed allows the user to slow the fan during times of preparation or off-gassing to dispel fumes and to turn it up during actual spraying.

I also opted for a Manometer, a device that indicates the restriction on the filters and provides a visual for when it’s time to replace them.

Installation and Demo

With the two fans 26” on center with outlets in the rear, I had to cut into our building to accommodate them.

Tracing Holes for Fans
Using 2×4″ as Guide for Pilot Hole

Thankfully, this process wasn’t too arduous as our building is 24” on center.

Once the cuts were made, we pushed the booth into place and connected the power.

I was especially impressed with the adjustability of the fans.

The final steps were to install the filters and manometer.

I also decided to hang protective film to preserve the interior of the booth.

Gavin Applying First Coat

Choosing a few of the decorative signs Built American includes for practice, I sandblasted them and Cerakoted them in H-362 Patriot Blue before curing them in the Built American BAE-0300 oven.

Conclusion

This spacious  spray booth was purpose built to offer everything an applicator needs.

Built American took our feedback and feature requests to create the GS3-457, which has everything we desire in a booth. I am very excited to put it to work. Keep watching for more Cerakote content!
