About the WOOX Wild Man

Despite its name, WOOX’s Wild Man stock is actually quite traditional.

Having tested the WOOX Supperleggera and Furiosa in American walnut and Cobra in laminated tiger wood, I decided to order the Wild Man in beechwood dark forest green.

The short action Remington 700 inlet came cut for an M5 bottom metal. This stock is also drop-in, requiring no pillars or extra bedding. The stock comes with spacers to lengthen the 13.25” overall length, but I decided not to use them this time around. I intend for this to be a truck gun and self-defense tool.

From WOOX

WOOX turns the wild idea of combining traditional style, groundbreaking technology, and classic lines, to create the Wild Man, a groundbreaking hunting chassis for bolt action rifles.

The Wild Man is the lightest hunting chassis in the world, weighing in at just 3.3 pounds. Compatible with a variety of major manufacturer platforms, the Wild Man is a premium upgrade for new rifles as well as the trusty shooter that’s showing some wear after years of use.

The drop-in system makes upgrading to a Wild Man simple to complete. Owners of Remington 700 (and clones) have an available left-handed option and all shooters will experience improved accuracy, and likely additional attention from the boys at the shooting range!

Made in Italy and assembled in USA.

About .308 Shorty

This 16” rifle is centered around a BAT Igniter action with a TacSport PRO-X trigger from Bullet Central.

I also added a Tiduro titanium suppressor from ODIN Works

Installation

Assembling the rifle was very simple. I dropped the bottom metal into the bottom of the stock and added the barreled action.

I started securing the front action screw first, then the rear.  Once finger-tight, I torqued them to the appropriate specifications. WOOX recommends 65 inch-lbs. on the front action screw and 45-55 inch-lbs. on the rear screw for a Remington 700.

After considering a number of choices, I settled on mounting an ATN X-Sight 5 electro-optic.

I already had this optic leveled and in rings, so it was seamless to mount on the Picatinny rail. I used  a 65 inch-lb. torque wrench from a Wheeler F.A.T. Stix set to accomplish this task. I selected the X-Sight 5 as I wanted to take advantage of its video recording and ballistics app capabilities.

Shooting

I used my .308 Berry’s 220 Grain load to sight in the rifle. I use this load in a variety of rifles, particularly for suppressed applications.

Zeroing on an ATN is easy utilizing the one-shot zero feature. Take one shot and move the crosshairs to where you were aiming.

From here I went out to the ridgeline to shoot, pushing the rounds out to 300 yards.

I had great success and a lot of fun engaging D-M Targets’ steel rock chucks.

I observed great consistency in my shots as well as fantastic subsonic performance. The rifle balanced well across a number of different shooting positions.

Conclusion

I really appreciate the craftsmanship and simplicity of the WOOX Wild Man. This lightweight stock is ideal for hunting and I am excited for this most recent evolution of .308 Shorty!
