About the Arrow Products Precision Scope Leveling Mount
The precision scope leveling mount is CNC-machined from a billet of aluminum, featuring a single-hinge design, zero-backlash adjustment wheel, and single built-in level. (Yes, you only need one!)
It pairs with the unique clamp design of the rock vise for a secure fit and eliminates the need to level the scope on a rifle.
From Arrow Products:
Built using the same Arrow Products precision and quality as the Rock Vise! Using a unique positive retention, off-center, single hinge design, the mount has a zero back-lash brass thumb-screw and two built-in levels to ensure your scope is as precise as possible. No need for jamb-nuts. Made from aluminum and anodized black.
Scope Mounting
The first step still requires securing the rifle in a vise to determine proper eye relief.
I mounted the ring bases first, then placed the scope.
I lightly secured the ring caps so that the scope would slide in the rings for adjustment.
When I determined the correct eye relief, I tightened the scope caps so the scope wouldn’t move, unscrewed the bases and transferred it to the precision scope leveling mount. (Be sure to remember where the rings sat on the rifle before removing it!)
The first step was torquing the ring bases on the leveling mount. I pushed forward on the rings as I did so to ensure they were perfectly spaced. (When I mount the scope to the rifle I will do the same.)
This is to ensure the front of the ring mount is mated to the rear of the Picatinny rail section it would bottom out against during recoil.
Next I set my Wheeler F.A.T. wrench to the recommended 28 inch-lbs. for the ring cap screws and ensured the bubble level on the leveling mount was perfectly centered.
I have a perfectly level “duplex” marked on the inside of my garage. I used this as a reference for the scope reticle, carefully rotating the scope without moving it forward or backwards.
I used a TriggerCam to document the progress.
When I had the reticle level, I began torquing the ring cap screws in a criss-cross pattern, checking periodically to ensure the scope hadn’t rotated.
The final step was to remove the leveled scope from the mount and torque the bases to 65 inch-lbs. on my 22 Creedmoor.
Conclusion
Of all the varying ways to mount an optic, I found using the Arrow Products precision scope leveling mount to be one of, if not the most elegant.
