During my recent visit to RCBS, I spent some time with Joe Dunning, the head of the product design team behind the MatchMaster Powder Dispenser. Dunning explained how to make the most out of this machine!

About the MatchMaster Powder Dispenser
The user can set the desired charge weight on the LCD screen or via a bluetooth companion app. Users have a choice between “Match” mode and “Standard” mode.
Match mode is more precise and a bit slower than Standard mode. The MatchMaster’s large tube rotates first until it gets close to the desired charge weight.
When it stops, the small tube rotates to dispense the last bit of powder. The smaller tube starts with a coarse trickle and adjusts to a fine trickle as it approaches the target value.

MatchMaster Powder Settings
The MatchMaster has four default settings, one for each of the four different powder types. “Powder 1” covers large extruded powders. “Powder 2” is ideal for smaller extruded powders like Reloader 15 and Varget. “Powder 3” is designed for ball powders, but sometimes small extruded powders also work well on this setting. Powder 4 is for flake-type powders.
Each of these settings takes into account the average grain weight per powder type, stopping powder dispensing closer or further from the desired charge weight.
In example, the MatchMaster is advertised as having 0.04 grain accuracy in match mode. If your desired charge weight is 50.0 grains, the dispenser stops at 49.96 grains to allow for overage to take it as close to 50.0 grains as possible. (While not advertised, this feature means that with ball powders accuracy can be greater than 0.04 grains!)
You can also set custom parameters for various powders, save them, and share them.
Conclusion
As you become more familiar with the MatchMaster, you can fine tune it.
Dunning said his speed record is dispensing approximately 60 grains of powder in eight seconds.
Using the companion app really elevates the experience and capabilities of the unit, but you can still use all of these features through the built-in screen.
