6mm Creed SHORTY: Classic & Modern (WOOX Elegante Hybrid)

This time I’m  building a rifle around the WOOX Elegante Hybrid in collector-grade walnut. I’ve previously shown the WOOX Elegante Sporter. Now I’m moving into a silhouette more familiar to precision shooters with a lightweight 6mm Creedmoor barrel that maximizes performance.

About the WOOX Elegante

The WOOX Elegante was designed to be traditional, paying homage to classic hunting stock styles while offering modern advantages.

WOOX offers two versions of Elegante, the Sporter and the Hybrid stock. Both are crafted from carefully selected Claro American Walnut and have specialty High-Grade options.

WOOX also offers spacers to extend length of pull as an additional accessory.

We recently featured the Sporter version of the WOOX Elegante.

Bill of Materials

I paired the WOOX Elegante Hybrid (High-Grade) with a BAT Igniter action, Hawkins Hunter DBM, TriggerTech Special single-stage trigger, and BSF 1:7.5 20”  barrel.

I also added a Telson ARC 2.5-15×44 (Use code UR15 to save 15%) and Hawkins Tank ST muzzle brake.

This entire combination is optimized for hunting from the stock to the magazine, trigger, and brake.

I used a special JGS Precision 6mm Creedmoor reamer to chamber the pre-threaded barrel on the PM-1440HVT-2. (This 6 Creed UR reamer has a custom freebore.)

I fired up Rifle Builder PRO to guide me through the process.

Assembly

Once I had chambered the barrel, it was time to check headspace and torque the barrel to the action.

I also laser engraved the barrel details using a Tykma Minilase XL.

I set the TriggerTech Special to one pound and installed the Hawkins Hunter DBM and magazine. It fit perfectly.

Installing the TriggerTech Special

I was able to easily add a Henderson ARCA rail while the Arrow Product Rock Vise securely held the rifle.

Next, I flipped the rifle over to mount the Telson ARC 2.5-15×44 (Use code UR15 to save 15%) in Hawkins Precision Ultra-Light Tactical Rings.

Shooting

I started at the 100-yard bench with Federal Premium factory ammunition.

It was loaded with Berger 6mm 105-grain bullets and Sierra 6mm 107-grain bullets. Velocities approached 3,000 fps, but all groups measured about 1 MOA. Desiring better precision, I switched over to two Berger 105-grain handloads we had on hand (N560 and H4350). I achieved about 0.6” groups at 100 yards.

Seeking to simulate hunting, I also took some shots off of a tripod at a coyote steel target at 400 yards. It was both fun and easy!

Conclusion

I greatly appreciate the additional M-LOK slots in the WOOX Elegante Hybrid, as well as the built-in cheek riser.

It shot very well, especially with a 20” barrel. (Most of our builds have longer barrels.) I look forward to doing more load development with this rifle to see how tight of groups I can get!
