The forend has textured features with four M-LOK slots on each side and three on the bottom for the addition of accessories like an ARCA plate or light. Flares on either end of the forend keep your hand in place.
Finished in the same beautiful walnut as the forend, the buttstock has an adjustable cheek riser as well as two M-LOK slots on the right side and a QD mount on each side.
An adjustable cheekpiece isn’t something you commonly find in a lever gun even though obtaining proper eye relief without one can be a problem. The buttstock also has textured panels to promote grip.
A sturdy rear buttpad rounds out the BRAVADO buttstock.
Installation
Following an instructional video from WOOX, I first removed the optic, suppressor, and a single screw on each side of the forend.
I secured the unloaded rifle in the vise upside down, and lightly tapped the forend until it could slide freely and I could remove the magazine tube.
At this point I removed the rifle from the vise to remove the retainer.
Not wanting to damage the sight, I supported the barrel on the threaded side, first adding some TW-25B to the threads and the thread protector.
The retainer is secured in a dovetail and slides out sideways. No longer secured by the magazine tube, I tapped it out, sending it flying across the floor.
At this point, I was able to completely remove the original forend. Before adding the new handguard, I had to make sure I had the dovetail in on the forend and reinstall the retainer.
Next, I removed the BRAVADO handguard insert and its included three screws, using the original two screws to secure it to the rifle. (The forend slides on from the back.)
With the new forend in stock, I removed the thread protector and reinstalled the magazine tube.
The buttstock is much easier to install than the forend. I removed a single top screw on the Henry X Model to release the old stock and slid on the new one.
The final step was to add the red dot and suppressor.
Conclusion
Wheeler’s 65-Piece Hex/Torx screwdriver set helped me make quick work of the BRAVADO install.
I was incredibly happy with the aesthetic as well as the newfound functionality. The grip is thicker than the original synthetic stock and I found it much more ergonomic.
The ability to adjust the cheekpiece to obtain a proper cheek weld made shooting a lever gun even more fun. The skeletonized recoil pad did an excellent job as taming the recoil of 410 grain subsonic .45-70 loads.
