AMP Mate & AMP Mark II DB

The combination of Annealing Made Perfect’s AMP Mark II DB and AMP Mate is a dream setup for automated brass annealing. We’ve covered each of these products separately, but today I’m using it for myself!

Setup

My first course of action was to check for and install the latest firmware for the Mark II DB.

I analyzed a 6mm Dasher case from Alpha Munitions and saved it into the integrated database for future reference.

Installing the AMP Mate is as simple as setting it down on top of the Mark II DB – I just had to slightly adjust the shellholder and case feed guide.

Adjusting the Case Feed Guide

With these changes made, I added the Dillon case feed bowl supported by the Creedmoor Sports AMP Stand

In addition to the database, the AMP Mark II DB has special settings for the AMP Mate.

Easily move the shellholder position, adjust load speed (fast or slow), and cal eject from the AMP Mate setup screen.

The upgrade includes a number specifying the exact position of the servo. This number is equal to the angle at which the shellholder is resting. The AMP Mark II allowed up and down movement in cal eject, but had no way of  preserving the exact location.

Most of the time, you will  only need to set this once. This setting is used to optimize where casings are being ejected. 45 degrees is standard for the machine resting position.

Demonstration

I deposited a handful of Alpha Munitions brass in the case feeder and with all the data entered, I located the appropriate settings and set them to run.

I find watching the fully automated process mesmerizing, though it does free you to do something else.

Conclusion

Setting up the Mark II DB with AMP Mate was extremely simple.

Automation for mundane processes like brass preparation saves considerable time and effort. It’s also incredibly impressive to watch!
