Less Reticle Movement, Better Shooting: Mako (25 Creed Build)

This is a rifle chassis unlike almost anything you’ve seen. The Mako from Accuracy Solutions is constructed out of Micarta material, and we are going to go super in-depth on what makes it such a unique platform. The Mako is essentially a more streamlined version of that platform, bringing an integrated bipod extender and extreme stability to short-action precision setups.

Bill of Materials

For this project, I brought together a suite of premium components designed to maximize stability and precision.

The heart of the build is the 1934 Armory BE1 custom action. To this, I mated a Custom Rifle Barrels (CRB) blank that I chambered in 25 Creedmoor here on the channel.

Because I had robbed the original trigger for a different project, I installed a fresh TriggerTech Special “Rough Diamond” single-stage trigger to ensure a perfect, crisp break.

The optic is the Telson Targetmaster 5-25×56, and to finish off the muzzle, I threaded on the Area 419 Maverick suppressor.

About the Mako Chassis

The Accuracy Solutions Mako chassis is truly differentiated. Made from Micarta, its standout feature is the integrated bipod extender. Having the extender built directly into the chassis optimizes the balance and keeps the bipod closer to the centerline of the bore axis.

This chassis also features an incredibly well-designed magazine catch.

By accessing a lock and an adjustment point with an Allen key, you can micro-adjust the mag catch up and down to perfectly fine-tune feeding for standard AICS magazines (I ran a Magpul PMAG for this test without issue).

At the rear, the buttstock is identical to the one on the Baby Orca.

It utilizes a coarse screw for rapid length of pull adjustments, an adjustable cheek riser, and a micro-adjust elevation control wheel on the bag rider. The clicks on the elevation wheel are robust and allow you to dial your vertical hold precisely on target without manhandling a rear bag.

Field Testing: Granularity and Recoil Control

I headed out to the 100-yard line to test the stability of the Mako and experiment with the bipod extender.

To demonstrate the value of the integrated extender, I measured the granularity of the buttstock’s micro-elevation adjustment:

Bipod Retracted: It took roughly 6 clicks on the rear elevation wheel to move the reticle one MIL.
Bipod Fully Extended: It took 8 clicks to achieve the same one MIL of movement.

Not only does extending the bipod give you finer control over your elevation adjustments, but it radically stabilizes the reticle. When dry-firing, the reduction in reticle movement is immediately apparent.

For the live-fire test, I used a pre-existing load I had on hand: brand new Peterson brass, 131-grain Blackjack bullets, and 42.6 grains of H4350 (Note: Do not duplicate this load without consulting published load data).

Across two 5-shot groups (10 shots total), the load averaged a scorching 3,001 fps with an SD of 12.3. Despite throwing this load together without fine-tuning it specifically for this barrel, the rifle still produced a combined 5-shot group size of barely 0.495 inches.

Conclusion

Accuracy Solutions has significantly evolved the concept of the modern rifle chassis. Between the Micarta material, the ultra-precise buttstock adjustments, and the integrated bipod extender, the Mako gives the shooter incredible control over recoil and reticle bounce.
