About the Build

I designed my custom 25 Creedmoor build for hunting with a 22” BSF carbon-wrapped 1:7.5 barrel, BAT Igniter action, Hawkins Precision M5 DBM and TriggerTech Remington 700 Diamond trigger.

I chambered the barrel on my Precision Matthews PM-1440GT-VS lathe, guided by Rifle Builder PRO.

I originally set this barreled action in a WOOX High Grade Superleggera with an Element Optics Helix HDLR 2-16×50, but decided to pursue a more traditional look and feel with the new WOOX Elegante Sporter.

I also swapped out the optic for an Athlon Ares HLR 2.5-15×42 and the Hawkins M5 DBM for a Hunter DBM and Hunter Mag.

Putting it Together

Swapping the stock was simple. I removed the action screws and old stock before carefully fitting the recoil lug into the recoil lug pocket on the Elegante.

Before installing the bottom metal, I took a moment to center the trigger in the bottom metal cut. This ensures proper action screw alignment. The shorter action screw goes in the front of the bottom metal and the longer screw goes in the back.

I tightened the screws until finger tight, tapped the stock base against the table to settle the barreled action into the stock, and torqued the screws the rest of the way. The Hunter magazine fit perfectly and there was proper bolt and barrel clearance. No bedding or adjustment needed!

I wanted to be able to mount the rifle to a tripod and shoot off a bipod, so I added an ODIN Works 4” M-LOK to ARCA rail.

Shooting

Per usual, I started out at the 100-yard bench to verify zero with a bipod and rear bag.

After doing so, it was time to simulate some hunting-type shots. I placed a bag on a tree branch and repeatedly engaged a rack of Caldwell flip-up steel target at 200 yards.

I also decided to do some offhand shooting, assuming a traditional competition stance to shoot deer-vital-sized steel at 100 yards. It felt good to hear the steel ring and see the flash of Caldwell’s Flash Bang hit indicator with each successful shot.

The rifle balanced well and remained very compact even with the addition of a suppressor. I concluded my shooting off a tripod, shooting Caldwell gong at 309 yards.

Conclusion

Much of the benefit of Remington 700 clones like the BAT Igniter comes from the ability to continually change the fit and feel of your rifle.

The WOOX Elegante Sporter stock gave my 25 Creedmoor custom build a very traditional look while affording easy options to mount accessories like an ARCA rail via well-positioned M-LOK slots. It was a pleasure to shoot and I’d definitely hunt with this rifle.
