The right buttstock can completely change your shooting experience. The Ultradyne Gen 2 adjustable buttstock system comes in four different configurations designed to pair with Ultradyne chassis systems. I looked at both fixed and folding configurations, Picatinny and buffer tube mounting options, length-of-pull spacers, bag riders, and the new buffer-to-Picatinny adapter. If you’re considering upgrading your current setup or building a new precision rifle, this video and article will help you decide if the Ultradyne Gen 2 buttstock is right for you.

About the Ultradyne Gen 2 Adjustable Buttstock
The modular and highly-adjustable Ultradyne Gen 2 buttstock is compatible with both UD chassis and AR-15s! It is available in four different configurations: Picatinny fixed, Picatinny folding, buffer fixed, and buffer folding. All are made in the U.S. from solid billet 6061-T6 aluminum and are available in multiple colors. This stock system is designed to be ultra-lightweight (15.1 oz. to 17.6 oz.) with click-less adjustments, adjustable length of pull, adjustable cheek height and position, and no rattle/tension knobs.

The folding stocks have a single button fold operation (no lock) and retail for approximately $100 more than the fixed options.

The Picatinny mounting system is compatible with buffer-less AR rifles and the UD Gen 2 chassis. The buffer mounting system is designed for the original UD chassis. Ultradyne also offers adapters that allow you to convert your UD buttstock from one configuration to another.
From Ultradyne:

The UD Gen 2 Adjustable Buttstock is a billet-machined, fully adjustable buttstock built for repeatable fit and easy transport.
Designed for shooters who demand precision, modularity, and reliable fit, the UD Gen 2 Adjustable Buttstock is a purpose-built stock that attaches quickly to any 1913 Picatinny, or mil-spec threaded rear mounting interface, and pairs exceptionally well with our UD Chassis and Picatinny Chassis. Machined from a solid billet of 6061-T6 aluminum, the stock offers smooth, repeatable adjustments for cheek height and length-of-pull so you can dial in consistent eye-to-optic alignment and shoulder mount. Choose the fixed model for a stream-line, lightweight option, or the folding model for the ultimate compact carry and storage solution. Cerakote finish, optional bag rider, and manufactured in the USA, this stock makes your build more modular, easier to pack, and faster to configure in the field.

Installation
I greatly prefer the Gen 2 features over the original UD buttstock. With this in mind, I decided to upgrade a UD Gen 1 chassis we had on hand at Ultimate Reloader! Installation is very simple. I removed the set screw in the base of the chassis before screwing on the folding buffer buttstock. I then retightened the set screw once I had properly positioned the stock. (Each UD buttstock comes with an extra set screw!)

The folding buttstocks are incredibly portable, folding to less than the length of the smallest UD3 chassis! Its shortest length of pull would be especially well-suited for youth and small-framed shooters. If I wanted to utilize a Picatinny mount instead of the buffer version, I could use an Ultradyne UD Buffer to Picatinny Adapter. This adapter has a two-piece design that can be timed during installation and retails for less than $60.

It adapts mil-spec buffer tube threads to Picatinny. Also available is an adapter to convert fixed stocks to folding stocks. Both adapters are very simple to install.

Additionally, I installed the UD buttstock spacer kit and bag rider. Gavin likes to use the full length of pull spacers at his disposal. The bag rider provides a consistent, stable interface for a rear bag with a slight angle for height adjustment.

Conclusion
I greatly enjoyed shooting the CMMG Dissent with the UD Gen 2 picatinny folding chassis and Ultradyne brake. This system is convenient, easy to set up and use, and very robust.

I did not observe any play in either the fixed nor the folding options. I appreciate the various color options and the versatility this system provides!
