New Dillon Precision Rapid Primer Filler

Manually filling primer tubes can really slow down your reloading efficiency. 100 primers go incredibly quickly on a progressive, and even if you keep several tubes ready, it still takes time to fill them. Earlier this year, we tested Dillon Precision’s RF100. Dillon has improved upon this model with their new Rapid Primer Filler. Will this model really load 100 primers in under 30 seconds? In this video, we run several tests and put it head-to-head against the RF100!

About the Dillon Rapid Primer Filler

The Dillon Rapid Primer Filler comes in two versions: small and large rifle primer. I have been testing the small rifle primer configuration for several weeks.

The Rapid Primer Filler is compatible with the tubes from the RF100 and vice versa. Dillon sells extra tubes and a conversion kit to change between small and large primers.

From Dillon Precision

The second-generation primer filling system that sets a new standard for speed and reliability. Load 100 primers in under 30 seconds with industry-leading performance and safety features. The Rapid Primer Filler will include 1 Primer Tube Assembly with the option to purchase additional below.

Speed Meets Reliability

  • Load 100 primers in under 30 seconds
  • Improved motor and vibratory system
  • Enhanced feed mechanism for reliability
  • Dramatically reduced tuning time
  • Simplified primer tube design
  • Full compatibility

What’s in the Box

The Dillon Rapid Primer Filler comes in two versions: small and large rifle primer. I have been testing the small rifle primer configuration for several weeks.

Each version comes with two small feed adapters, two stabilizing plates, a spare pin, spare bushing, hex key, and one primer tube (large or small depending upon unit ordered). Also included are a manual and power block with various adapters.

Rifle and pistol primers take a different stabilizing plate as the SAAMI primer specifications slightly differ between large rifle and large pistol primers as well as between small rifle and small pistol primers. Clearly labeled, dedicated plates increase feeding speed and  efficiency.

Rapid Primer Filler vs. RF100

One of the greatest differences between the RPF and RF100 is price. The RPF offers greater performance at a much lower price point with significantly more affordable spare tubes.

Each RPF tube assembly costs $29, compared to the $100 cost of RF100 tubes.

Dillon Precision was able to make this change by eliminating the primer blast shield, which they found unnecessary in testing. (This also saves on storage space!)

The Rapid Primer Filler also features an improved motor system, enhanced feed mechanism, and decreased tuning time— all contributing to a faster primer fill speed. Dillon advertises that the RPF takes under 30 seconds to fill a tube with 100 primers compared to approximately one minute using the RF100.

I did notice that the primers fed more smoothly through the Rapid Primer Filler than the RF100.

Testing

I ran several five tests with CCI 400 small rifle primers on the Rapid Primer Filler, allowing for a direct comparison to the five tests I ran on the RF100 with the same primers.

Dillon RF100 Next to the Dillon Rapid Primer Filler

The time it took for the very last primer to fill varies greatly, so I kept a count of the time it took to fill both 99 and 100 primers.

Overall, the Rapid Primer Filler took an average of 38 seconds to fill a tube with 99 primers, and 42 seconds for the 100th primer. The last primer took between one and 10 seconds to fill across the five tests.

I had zero upside-down primers!

In comparison, I had one upside-down primer during my RF100 tests with an average fill time of 79 seconds. On average, the new Rapid Primer Filler is 31 seconds faster, almost twice the speed of the RF100.

I only had to adjust the rheostat on the RPF. It worked out of the box with no tuning.

Some users online have reported having to make slight modifications to the RF100 to achieve the same results.

I could hear slight “clicks” when adjusting the new rheostat compared to the original, allowing me better control.

Conclusion

My results with the Rapid Primer Filler clearly show that Dillon’s improvements over the RF100 worked. The unit is faster, required no tuning in my tests, and is much more affordable! There are always more tests to run, but I had limited time.

Let me know your results!
