About the F.A.T. Wrench AutoTorque

The F.A.T. Wrench AutoTorque was designed with gunsmiths in mind, featuring a torque range between 10 and 65 in-lbs., adjustable via a digital display.

This tool runs two hours on a single charge and is powered by a USB-C rechargeable, detachable 12v lithium-ion battery.

The AutoTorque comes in a custom hard case that also includes a 15-piece ¼” bit set of the most common fasteners found on modern firearms.

The AutoTorque operates just like an impact drill, but with a variable speed 200 RPM motor that stops automatically when the desired torque is reached.

It also has an integral battery indicator so you never run out of juice.

From Wheeler Tools

The newest addition to the ever-expanding, iconic F.A.T. Wrench family comes the F.A.T. Wrench AutoTorque, the first battery-operated screwdriver with an integrated torque limiter engineered specifically for the gunsmithing industry. This innovative screwdriver allows you to work faster when installing red dots, scope bases, scope rings, and action screws without sacrificing accuracy. Adjustment is simple, just set the torque between 10-65 in-lbs. on the easy-to-read digital display and get to work. The variable speed 200 RPM motor stops automatically when the desired torque is reached, safeguarding against fasteners being over-torqued or causing damage to your firearm. The rechargeable battery pack boasts a generous 2-hour continuous run-time on a single charge. Includes a 15-piece, black phosphate-coated 1/4″ bit set that conveniently fits most common fasteners found on modern firearms. All the contents are neatly organized and secured in a premium latching hard case and stacks with other Wheeler sets for smart, convenient storage.

Demonstration and Thoughts

Using the AutoTorque was incredibly familiar. I took advantage of the included bit extension right away, using it to complete what I believe was my fastest scope installation ever.

Holding down the plus or minus buttons on the digital display adjust the torque setting continuously. It is much faster to use this method when switching between torque settings than it is to repeatedly press the individual buttons.

Like all Wheeler F.A.T. Wrench products, the AutoTorque came with a calibration card. This only served to increase my confidence in its accuracy.

The MAX button on the rear display automatically sets the AutoTorque to 65 in-lbs. I did notice that if you want to run the tool at the maximum speed, you must deliberately pull back on the trigger.

You can control the speed of the motor by how far you pull the trigger, giving you better control.

Conclusion

I am very excited to put the AutoTorque to work and see how much time it will save.

Wheeler’s Pro Gunsmithing series is well-thought out with tools that not only fill a need but also come in packaging that nests together for convenient storage.
