Just how well can a rigid 18″ 6.5 Creed shoot and what velocities will we see? For this build we take a McGowen ECM Barrel down to 18″, install it in a 1934 BE1 Action, and drop it into the WOOX Furiosa Micarta! In this video we walk through the build components, process, and put it to work. Check it out!

About the WOOX Furiosa
We aren’t new to the WOOX Furiosa line, having previously built a 6mm x 47 Lapua in a Furiosa Ultra chassis. We’ve also covered a number of other stocks including the Bravado and Cobra. Don’t forget to use the code ULTIMATERELOADER10 to save 10%!

This time we opted for the micarta and aluminum configuration. Micarta is a dense denim and resin material that uniquely absorbs recoil. It isn’t vulnerable to temperature fluctuations and is extremely durable. The Furiosa chassis shares many of the features of the Furiosa Ultra, but in a more compact package.
From WOOX:

The WOOX Furiosa stock is a groundbreaking high-performance aftermarket chassis.
This high-tech hybrid stock combines wood sections over a full-length aerospace grade aluminum skeleton chassis, giving it the “feel” of a wood stock with the strength and stability of a metal stock.
The proven improvements in both accuracy and shot-to-shot consistency proves the Furiosa to be a critical upgrade for serious hunters and shooters.
Brains + beauty.
Gorgeously carved wood, anodized aluminum and micro-adjustable LOP and cheek riser combine to make the seemingly impossible, possible.
Aerospace skeleton.
The WOOX modular chassis is the secret sauce of our stocks, providing an exceptionally rigid platform.
Unaffected by heat or humidity, the lightweight aluminum comes hard-anodized.
Accessorize to personalize.
Make the Furiosa uniquely yours with M-LOK® panels at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions of the foreend.

Bill of Materials
The precision inlet of the Furiosa fits my favorite bottom metal, the M5 DBM from Hawkins Precision, and accepts an AICS magazine.

I paired this combination with a 1934 BE1 action from 1934 Armory and an ECM barrel blank from McGowen Precision Barrels. I decided to use the Bix’n Andy TacSport Pro-X Trigger from Bullet Central, the same trigger I used in my .25 Creedmoor build, as well as the Telson Target Master 5-25×56 Scope.

At the beginning of this project I decided to cut the barrel to 18” to make it more suppressor-friendly and to see what effect the shorter barrel has on accuracy.

Besides my traditional Precision Matthews equipment, I have some new gunsmithing tools including a Forster Products11-piece headspace gauge set, Forster chamber reamer, and Forster piloted roughing drill.

The roughing drill utilizes bushings for added stability while the cartridge specific gauge set spans the SAAMI minimum to maximum in 0.001” increments to determine headspace to 0.001”.

Rifle Assembly
This 18” blank was one of the shorter barrels I have ever chambered on my PM-1440HVT-2, so I had to use a barrel extension to get it all the way through the spindle and into the spider.

I have another video coming with more details, but I used the Forster piloted roughing drill to remove the bulk of the chamber before indicating.

Once the barrel was dialed in, I cleaned up the pre-drilled area before turning down the tenon, relief, and threading the tenon.

Next came using my new Forster reamer to ream the chamber. It’s important to take your time during this step, checking for runout throughout the entire process.

I managed to obtain perfect headspace before chamfering and polishing the chamber entrance.

With the barrel complete, it was time to torque it to the action. I knew that the headspace was going to fall between no and no-go, but I used Forster’s headspace gauge set to determine my exact headspace: go + 0.001”.

While slightly on the tight side, it will feed factory ammunition with no issues.

My incredibly thick ECM barrel isn’t a typical situation, requiring me to use my mill to slightly open the Furiosa forend.

Remember that factory barrels will typically fit the Furiosa without modification.

For final assembly, I installed the Hawkins Precision bottom metal, ensured the trigger was centered, and torqued the action screws before adding the optic and an Omega 300 suppressor.

Shooting
We added an ARCA rail to the forend to maximize compatibility with our bipods and tripods. The buttstock remained tight and solid while shooting Hornady’s 100 Gr. ELD-VT ammunition from the prone position.

After getting a quick zero at 100 yards, I moved to the ridgeline to engage a 200-yard D-M rockchuck target from a tree branch, imitating a possible hunting scenario.

I landed five shots one after another that would have ethically downed whatever game I was after. Curious about velocity? We recorded a 3,045 fps average velocity on the Athlon Rangecraft Velocity PRO Radar Chronograph.
Conclusion
This low-recoiling rifle was extremely pleasant to shoot with a neat blacked-out look. I plan to use it for varmint hunting and look forward to further testing this short barrel.

The Furiosa is available for a number of inlets in American Walnut, Micarta, Laminated Tiger Wood, and Beech Midnight Grey, allowing you to find what works for you!
