About the WOOX Vigilante

The Vigilante series has several components— a stock, grip, handguard, and M-LOK covers— available separately or as a part of two different kits.

The American Walnut stock features an adjustable length of pull neatly controlled by a wheel below the stock as well as an ultra-light recoil pad and QD sling mount.

The ambidextrous matching grip is crafted with precision checkering for greater control for both left-and-right handed shooters.

M-LOK slots are integrated into the Vigilante stock and handguard, which is available in three different lengths: 9 inches, 11 inches, and 14.5 inches.

All three lengths have textured inlay panels and a short Picatinny rail for accessory mounting.

WOOX also offers various styles of M-LOK rail covers, which can be combined with the Vigilante handguard or a more standard AR forend.

Installation

I decided to revitalize my burnt bronze 6mm ARC CMMG Resolute AR-15 with WOOX’s Vigilante furniture.

I’ve always appreciated the unique aesthetic WOOX provides with their hybrid American Walnut and aluminum offerings. I decided on the long 14.5” Vigilante handguard to allow me to hold further forward on the rifle.

Note that this handguard is only compatible with AR-15’s, while the stock and grip are also compatible with the AR-10, M4, and M16.

While I couldn’t show installation in the YouTube video due to restrictions, installation was very simple. To install the handguard, I simply removed the existing forend, gas block, gas tube, and barrel nut.

WOOX includes a special barrel nut with each handguard. This barrel nut features a number of tapped holes for easy alignment and a hex nut in the center. I torqued it to the appropriate specifications, then reinstalled the gas tube and gas block with the new forend. I indexed the barrel nut so that its six tapped holes aligned with the six screws in the new handguard.

The grip only requires a single screw and the Vigilante stock uses the existing buffer tube assembly, which allowed me to retain the RipStock functionality of my CMMG Resolute.

I also added a small .30 caliber suppressor and kept the Leupold optic I had previously mounted.

Shooting

I zeroed the rifle at 50 yards off a bag with Hornady’s Precision Hunter ammunition before moving to 200 yards.

Here I engaged D-M Targets’ steel rock chucks off a tree branch to improvise a hunting scenario.

Lastly I focused on speed and precision on close-range steel in the industrial yard, shooting offhand and off a tripod.

Conclusion

Shooting an AR is always fun, particularly with steel targets. The American Walnut of the Vigilante furniture came to life in the sun—it is positively stunning.

While the distinctive look draws attention, the solid feel and carefully-designed components enhance the shooting experience. The textured panels along the top of the handguard greatly aided in my ability to securely grip the rifle, particularly when wrapping my entire hand around it.
