Powderfunnels.com universal powder-through expander Part II

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

Recently, I posted an overview of the powderfunnels.com universal powder through expander. In this post, I’ve created a video (thanks everyone for the suggestion) showing how it is installed in the Hornady Lock-N-Load AP powder measure, and briefly showing it in use to load 44 Magnum. The setup is basically the same regardless of whether you’re loading 44 Magnum, 45 ACP, 9mm Parabellum, or other pistol cartridges.

I have not personally used this product with the Hornady bullet feeder, but my friend Steve Herndon has, and it has worked well for him. Hope you enjoy this video!

Thanks,
Gavin

In this video we’ll continue the precision loading process by using the Redding 3-BR powder measure and the Hornady Auto Charge to dispense powder loads.

Next, we’ll cover calculating optimal seating depth, and seating the bullets.

Thanks,
Gavin

AR-MPR: Phase II – Determining Max COL with OAL Gage

Friday, February 25th, 2011

One of the important things to know before loading rifle ammunition is how far out (shallow) you can seat bullets, and what the optimized seating depth is for a particular bullet for your rifle and shooting application. For AR-MPR Phase II, we’re going for maximum accuracy, and also need to assure proper feed characteristics so that our rifle won’t jam. In this video, we’ll use the Hornady Lock-N-Load OAL gage, a modified .223 case for this tool (a Hornady product as well), and the Hornady Lock-N-Load Bullet Comparator kit to measure max COL for a particular bullet.

We’ll refer to these measurements towards the end of the AR-MPR Phase II single stage loading videos when we dial in the Redding Compeition Seating Die for our load.

Thanks,
Gavin
