About the Berger 6mm 120-Grain Long Range Hybrid Target Bullet
After some discussions at SHOT Show, I was incredibly excited to test a pre-production lot of the new Berger 6mm 120-Grain Long Range Hybrid Target Bullets!

6mm cartridges have grown in popularity as they balance the tradeoffs between recoil and long-range ballistics. This bullet pushes the ballistics of the 6mm cartridge to the limit, allowing the shooter to maintain their sight picture for quick follow-up shots and maximize hits at distance in windy conditions.

This bullet is longer than the popular Berger 6mm 105-Grain LRHT with an impressive 0.328 G7 BC. This is incredibly close to Berger’s .25 caliber 135-Grain LRHT BC (0.334) and their 6.5 144-Grain LRHT BC (0.336).
From Berger:

We’re excited to announce the new 6mm 120 Grain Long Range Hybrid Target™ (LRHT) Bullet – the heaviest-in-class projectile and highest performing exterior ballistics of any .243 caliber bullet. Popular cartridges like 6mm Creedmoor, 6mm Dasher, 6mm GT, 6×47 Lapua, and .243 Winchester paired with the 120 grain 6mm LRHT reimagines capabilities and drives effective performance to 1,000 yards and beyond.
Berger’s 6mm 120 Grain Long Range Hybrid Target™ allows competitors in F-Class, Precision Rifle, Benchrest and other disciplines to benefit from the legendary easy-to-load, jump-tolerant hybrid ogive profile, and the industry’s highest 0.328 G7 Ballistic Coefficient (BC), unprecedented for 6mm’s. Plus, all Long Range Hybrid Target bullets utilize Berger’s Meplat Reduction Technology (MRT) and are Doppler radar verified with less than 1% BC variation. This delivers the highest hit percentage and least amount of vertical dispersion at the longest ranges.
“Our Berger R&D team listened to the challenges today’s precision rifle shooters must overcome to gain a competitive advantage,” stated Bob Stokes, Berger’s Production Engineer. “They responded unequivocally, ‘making quick and concise wind calls at mid- to long-range, as well as maintaining sight picture at extreme distances for precise follow-up shots.’ Our new 6mm 120 Grain LRHT is the industry’s best solution to address both challenges.”
Our Results

We ran our traditional lab tests on this bullet, measuring the diameter, length, and weight of a sample of ten. Here is the data!

Eager to take it out for some shooting, we loaded the Berger 6mm 120-Grain LRHT over 37.8 grains of Winchester StaBALL 6.5 and fired it through our full-custom 6mm x 47 build.

We used brand new Lapua brass necked down from 6.5×47 to 6×47. (Do NOT use our load data. Always consult manufacturer data.)

Five shots at 100 yards went into 0.339” with an average SD of 11.1 fps.

This build features a 6mm 1:7.5 Krieger barrel blank I chambered on my Precision Matthews 1440HVT-2. I paired this with a BAT Hammerhead action, Hawkins Precision M5 DBM, WOOX
Furiosa Ultra chassis (ULTIMATERELOADER10 to save 10%), and Leupold Mark 4HD 6-24×52 scope.
Berger recommends a twist rate of 1:7 to 1:7.5 for this new bullet. 7.5 twist is half a twist faster than any of the other 6mm rifles we’ve built to date.
Conclusion
Berger’s 6mm 120-Grain Long Range Hybrid Target Bullets really push 6mm’s into another level of performance. I’m thinking about what 6mm cartridge I should pair with a 1:7.5 barrel next for this bullet. Come discuss with us on UR PRO!

Also, keep an eye out for our upcoming video on load development for PRS featuring the Berger 6mm 120-Grain LRHT and a Dillon 550C.
