Spring is here, and it’s time to do some outside shooting, a LOT of outside shooting! Part of this season change for me is the opportunity to resume the AK and 7.62x39mm shooting/reloading project I kicked off before Winter. I’ve already gotten some rounds through my Century Arms N-PAP AK variant, and next I’m going to test my own reloads alongside factory ammunition. I plan to focus on 100 yard groups, and therefore need to have a decent scope setup for this AK in order to isolate my loads and the rifle from factors like the shooter and sight alignment. That’s what this post is about!
As shown in the video, I’ve decided to use the RSREGULATE AK-300-series mount for this project. Specifically the AK-307M mount, with the AKR top rail (see product page HERE). This mount system is very secure and stable, and also slips on and off the N-PAP rifle I have with ease.
Here’s what’s in the box with the AK-307M mount:
And what’s in the box with the AKR top rail, note the mounting hardware which includes an allen key, screws, and staking pins:
I’ll have to say, this setup fits perfectly, and I’m really excited to have the ability to quickly switch between “iron sights run-n-gun” mode and “bipod and scope 100-yard groups” mode. I’m anticipating that I’ll also try out the RSREGULATE mounting system with a red dot sight- that will be fun to try!
As stated in the video, the scope I’m using with this setup is overkill- but it’s what I had on hand, and it should work great for shooting groups “off the bench” at 100 yards.
Here are some specs for this scope:
- Mil-Dot Reticle, 2nd Focal Plane
- 30mm Maintube Diameter
- 1/4 MOA Impact Point Correction
- 30 MOA Windage/Elevation Adjustments
- Tactical, Finger-Operated Turrets
- Aluminum Housing
- Fully Multi-Coated Optics
- Water and Fogproof
- 3″ Sunshade
I traded this scope with a friend (used), and haven’t tried out any BSA optics, so this will be an interesting experiment!
Anyone else running a scope on their AK-style rifle? If so, what mount and scope did you select, and how is it working for you?
Stay tuned, reloading or the AK-47 is coming up soon!
