Exclusive Look: Redding New Products for 2017

If you are a fan of Redding Reloading Equipment products as I am, you’re going to be excited when you read this post! Through some patient persistence, I was able to get the “first look” at Redding’s new product announcements for the 2017 calendar year and SHOT Show. The theme this year is dies, dies, dies! Redding makes top-shelf die sets, and it’s no wonder that many hard-core rifle shooting competitors, avid long-range hunters, and reloading enthusiasts trust Redding dies to deliver great results. The following is a summary from the press releases Redding will provide at the 2017 SHOT Show.

22 Nosler added to National Match Die Set Offerings

Very well respected and successful as competition dies for military match style events, the National Match Die Set concept has only been offered in sanctioned calibers. With the ever-increasing rise of the AR platform rifles in the hunting and general target shooting arenas, Redding has responded to market requests by continuing to add new calibers to the product category. Now with the 22 Nosler hitting the precision AR platform it was a natural addition. The National Match Set is comprised of a Full Length Sizing Die, a Competition Seating Die, and a Taper Crimp Die. Also, all National Match Die Sets are (NM-C) sets include a carbide expander button.

New 6 mm Creedmoor Die Sets

Redding Reloading Equipment introduces new die sets in 6mm Creedmoor for 2017. They will be available in Type–S, Type-S Match and Competition series Die sets for the most demanding handloading enthusiasts.

New 41 Special Profile Crimp Die

Redding Reloading has added a unique Profile Crimp Die of the 41 Special Cartridge.  With factory brass now available from Starline this interesting Elmer Keith designed cartridge has new life. Essentially it is a 41 Magnum shortened by 1/8th of an inch, making it the same length as the 38 and 44 Special cases.  A number of custom pistol smiths including Hamilton Bowen have built custom revolvers for this caliber out of mid-size .357 Magnum revolvers adding more punch to the smaller and lighter frames.  It is perfectly acceptable to shoot in all 41 magnum revolvers as well, and the reduced case capacity makes for more efficient low power loadings. It is reported to be very pleasant to shoot and has been shown to be extremely accurate.  It loads with standard 41 Magnum dies but the shortened case does not allow for proper engagement of the 41 Magnum’s crimp location.  Much like their solution to 45-70 FTX issues of a couple of years ago, Redding has created a unique Profile Crimp die, which has the crimp properly located for the case length of the 41 Special.  This allows the user to use full power loadings without the set-back worries of not using a crimp.  These new Taper Crimp Dies for the 41 Special are currently available through Redding resellers. It is also interesting to note that Redding has introduced new Micrometer adjustable seat plugs for handgun and straightwall cases this year. These have greater adjustment than the standard seat plugs and are perfect for seating bullets in 41 special cases when using a 41 Magnum seating die.

22 Nosler and 6.5mm Creedmoor  Premium Die Sets

Redding Reloading Equipment has expanded their offerings of Premium Die Sets with the addition of the 22 Nosler and the 6.5mm Creedmoor, two of the most popular cartridges last year.  Branded as Premium Die Sets these new offerings include a Carbide Expander Button and a Micrometer Adjusting Seat Stem and are packaged in a distinctive black and gold box.  Redding recognized that customers were adding large numbers of these accessories as they increased their reloading knowledge and expectations from their handloaded ammunition.  The Carbide Expander Button reduces stress on the case neck and also is free floating, which many believe improves overall concentricity.  The Micrometer Adjusting Seat Stem allows for precise bullet seating depth to 1/0.001” adding to the handloader’s ability to find and repeat the perfect bullet jump for the best accuracy possible from his or her rifle. The Standard Premium Die Sets have a Full Length sizing die and a Seating Die with Micrometer Seat Stem.  The three die, Premium Deluxe Set has those two dies but also adds a Neck Sizing Die.  Now, those seeking to improve their handloading potential in these two popular chamberings, need not add accessories but find it all packaged neatly in the Redding Black and Gold box of Premium Die Sets.

New 6.5 mm Grendel Die Sets

Redding Reloading Equipment introduces new die sets in 6.5mm GRENDEL™ for 2017. They will be available in Type–S, Type-S Match and now Competition Die Sets for the avid long-range, shooting and hunting enthusiast.  Originally developed for use in the AR 15 type platform, it has evolved into a solid long range hunting and target shooting performer and has been applied to a variety of action types, always with an emphasis on low recoil and long rang accuracy. 300 Norma Magnum Dies

Redding Reloading Equipment introduces new die sets in 300 Norma Magnum for 2017. They will be available in Type–S, Type-S Match die sets and Competition Seating Dies for the most demanding precision handloading enthusiasts. Redding is responding to a significant demand spurred by the buzz about US SOCOM  interest in this cartridge for its new long range interdiction rifle program. Sharing a case head dimension with the 338 Lapua Magnum this chambering has quickly gained acceptance as an excellent long range precision round..  Factory brass is already being produced and with the current military we anticipate a number of new precision rifles to be available at the show. Redding will always respond to innovation in the firearms market and keep the serious handloader ready for the next new addition to the precision cartridge world. Customers should know that these dies will be available shortly after the SHOT Show in retail distribution and that Redding Reloading Equipment will continue to support popular, precision chamberings as they are introduced and accepted. It is important to note that Redding continues to produce truly “Custom” die sets as well. The Engineering Group at Redding requires only a chamber reamer drawing or 5 fired cases from the firearm in question to quote the production of dies for virtually any caliber and firearm which can be made with a 7/8 x 14 TPI die body. Prices are quoted on an individual basis depending upon the complexity of the chambering and any need for tooling. Those seeking dies for a truly unique or obsolete cartridge should contact the Redding Custom Die Center in the company’s Engineering Department.

New Cartridges in Master Hunter Die Set Portfolio

For 2017, Redding Reloading Equipment is offering their Master Hunter die set for three additional cartridges. New this year are 22 Nosler, 33 Nosler and 6.5 Creedmoor. These new Master Hunter die sets include a full length sizing die coupled with the highly respected Redding Competition Seating Die. All hunters know that full length sizing is critical when a high stress follow up shot is needed in the “ real world”  of hunting situations.  While neck sizing is fine for the range, hunting ethics demand that the hunter makes every effort to assure that his or her harvest is done with the greatest care for the animal. A stuck case or failure to properly feed can result in a long night of tracking or worse a wounded animal lost.  The standard full length sizer also allows the use of all brands of cases which fit the SAAMI standard without the need to change bushings as would be required with the Type-S Match Full set. This set can also be customized by adding a carbide expander, which puts less stress on the neck during expansion; and many believe improves concentricity.  Plus, a custom shoulder bump can be achieved by using this set with Redding’s unique Competition Shellholders. The Redding Competition Seating Die is recognized as a superior straight line, seating die, which supports the case and controls the bullet for the best concentricity possible with the components used.  The Competition Seating Die does not contain a crimp but today many premium, hunting bullets lack a “ crimp groove”  for a traditional roll crimp function.

  1. Gavin, I’m loving all the content on your blog and youtube channel. All very helpful to a 6 month avid reloader. I’ve loaded and shot 2000 rounds of 9mm and 100 rounds of .308 precision.

I use the Lee .308 4 die set. I’m looking at that Redding 6.5 Grendal Comp set for a friend. Help me understand; Am I seeing a full length die, a mic seating die and a crimp die?

  2. Thanks for the introduction to the new products. I see Redding is also introducing a micrometer bullets seating stem #36 for the 458 socom this year. As always great job.
