2014: What’s Coming on Ultimate Reloader

Hi all- I’m excited to launch a new year of content and stories on Ultimate Reloader, and wanted to take this opportunity to give you all a preview of what’s coming this year! These stories and themes will give you an idea of what’s coming, but there will be much more content that I can’t predict at this time, so get ready for the biggest and baddest year on ultimatereloader.com!

Going to the Extreme: 500 S&W Magnum and 50 BMG

Are you ready to take things to the max? I know I am! I’m in the process of  putting the final pieces together for some amazing stories about the most extreme handgun and rifle shooting and reloading. And here are a couple of pictures of the “preparations” 🙂

Shooting the 50 BMG is a huge rush! The blast wave from the muzzle brake is enough to rattle your eyeballs in their sockets. Fun for all! I’ve got reloading gear in the shop for 50 BMG, and will be partnering with friend Jim to put together some great 50 BMG shooting and reloading stories. It’s going to be fun (and punishment for our shoulders!)

But what about the most extreme handgun? My friend Dale has me covered there! We’ve been shooting his 500 S&W Magnum up at the property too, and have started reloading for it as well. Can’t wait to start posting the videos and blog post writeups for this cartridge as well!

More Shotshell Loading

2013 was the first year for shotshell reloading on Ultimate Reloader, and we’ll have more in 2014 including the RCBS GRAND. I’m hoping to reload some great quail and grouse loads this year. Would be great to take some game for dinner with shotshells that I had reloaded myself!

Hornady Rifle Bullet Feeder

You all have been asking for it, and it’s coming! The new Hornady Rifle Bullet Feeder has been a highly anticipated new product, and I’m excited to announce that I’ll be shooting video and posting blog post writeups on this new product. Can’t wait to get my hands dirty with this thing!

I don’t want to give everything away, but these are a few of the cool stories that I’ll be covering this year on Ultimate Reloader! Have a suggestion for me? Please leave a comment! More info to come shortly.

Thanks,
Gavin

  1. I am trying to get into reloading, where can I find Powder? it seems to be harder to find than 22 rimfire right now!!

    1. You find powder/primers/bullets when you find it.

Now there is another option….either get with others and form a buying group for powder/primers/bullets and order in bulk. And expect to lay out a few hundred dollars (If buying for yourself only) when powder is found to be in stock thru online suppliers. If you do not buy much…it becomes financially expensive to order in a couple pounds of power and a thousand primers. I order 10lbs at least of powder…mix/match…and 10 to 20 thousand primers,,,pull the math as far as costs go..

Natchez Shooters Supply…Wideners…Graf and Sons….MidwayUSA….MidSouth Shooters Supply…Third Generation Shooters Supply….Ballistic Products….or anywhere else on the net but these tend to be the best as far as price goes…..I like Powder Valley a lot and P.V. tends to have the best prices plus P.V. carries berdan primers.

As far as a store front supplier? You can waste a lot of gasoline driving around looking for reloading componets though you can try calling….you may not get a straight answer however…just saying.

    2. One place people don’t think to look is your local country gun shop or reloading store. These out-of-the-way places can have items in stock that you haven’t seen available online for over a year! May depend on where you live, but it’s worked for me and for a bunch of friends that reload here in the Northwest.

      1. Indeed! I have a slight habit of pulling over when minor road trips are taken and hardware stores/gunshops in small towns are seen….you just never know.

Not too long ago…I made a 120 mile trip to Utah…though I do not like Wally World…I went into the store and went straight to the sporting goods section. There sat 10lbs of IMR4227 AND 10lbs of IMR4064. And the sales person said I could buy however much I wanted…..hmmmm….I do not use these powders so I past….I’m crazy I guess. Wasn’t any point of buying buying these powders just for the sake of getting the powder. That just complicates the shortage. I knew no one that uses this powder either….now if were H414 or Varget…………….

  2. Hi Gavin, I want to build a Dillon 1050 with auto drive, case feeder, bullet loader, primmer loader and automate this with computer controlled. I want to run 5-10 K rounds per run, do you have any ideas for the truly ultimate reloader? I live in the Seattle area.

Thanks from a fellow grad from the other side of the cascades
